Today we're working on Magic E words like “here” and “athlete.” Start here if your child needs a refresher on this Magic E sound.
Now on to the lesson…
Rhyme It
Parents, read the following words out loud. Then ask your child which one does NOT rhyme with the others?
feet athlete foot ------------------------------- Say It Have your child point to and say the name "Pete" three times (remind them the Magic E at the end makes the other vowel say its name): P ete
P ete
Pete
------------------------------- Blend It Have your child read these words:
delete
compete
complete
athlete
concrete
here
Peter
deleted
completed
completely
incomplete
Read It
Have your child read the passage below out loud (if they need a refresher on the “ea” sound, start here).
Pete and Repeat
I ask my uncle to tell me a joke.
He agrees. He says, “Pete and Repeat were on a boat. Pete fell off. Who was left?”
“Repeat,” I say.
“Okay,” he responds. “Pete and Repeat were on a boat. Pete fell off. Who was left?”
“Repeat!” I exclaim!
He starts to tell the joke again, “Pete and Repeat were on a boat…”
But I interrupt him. “No more! I get it!”
I groan. “That joke was lame,” I tell my uncle.
-------------------------------
Explain It
Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:
Did the uncle tell a good joke? Why or why not?
Do you know any good jokes? Can you write it down?
