Read It

Have your child read the passage below out loud (if they need a refresher on the “ea” sound, start here).

Pete and Repeat

I ask my uncle to tell me a joke.

He agrees. He says, “Pete and Repeat were on a boat. Pete fell off. Who was left?”

“Repeat,” I say.

“Okay,” he responds. “Pete and Repeat were on a boat. Pete fell off. Who was left?”

“Repeat!” I exclaim!

He starts to tell the joke again, “Pete and Repeat were on a boat…”

But I interrupt him. “No more! I get it!”

I groan. “That joke was lame,” I tell my uncle.

-------------------------------

Explain It

Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:

  1. Did the uncle tell a good joke? Why or why not?

  2. Do you know any good jokes? Can you write it down?
