The Daily(ish) Decodable program uses a standard format to work through one sound per day. There are simple instructions for you, the parent or caregiver, and any words in big bold letters are meant for your child to read out loud.
Today we're going to work on the Magic E exceptions “some” and “come.” These are common words, but they don't follow the normal Magic E rules.
You can review all of the prior lessons here.
Rhyme It
Parents, read the following words out loud. Then ask your child which one does NOT rhyme with the others?
sing
hum
some
-------------------------------
Say It
Have your child point to and say the word "some" three times (it should rhyme with "hum"):
some
some
some
-------------------------------
Blend It
Have your child read these words out loud:
someday
sometime
somewhat
somehow
someone
something
somewhere
come
income
welcome
become

Read It
Have your child read the passage below out loud:
Come With Me
Come with me to play outside,
We will find a spot both big and wide.
We'll chase the sun, we'll run about,
We'll kick our heels, and dance and shout!
We'll jump in leaves, we'll take some spins,
With grassy feet and some goofy grins.
We'll make a fort and climb a tree,
And count the clouds—just you and me.
When day is done and shadows come,
We'll head back home to tell our mum.
She'll smile and ask, “Did you have some fun?”
We'll nod and say, “A ton! A ton!”
-------------------------------
Explain It
Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:
Can you think of 5 words that rhyme with "some?"
On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate today's poem? Why?
