Daily(ish) Decodable: Words like "paint"

The Daily(ish) Decodable program uses a standard format to work through one sound per day. There are simple instructions for you, the parent or caregiver, and any words in big bold letters are meant for your child to read out loud.

Today we're going to review the “ai” sound in words like “rain” and “paint.”

You can review all of the prior lessons here

Rhyme It

Artist Day

Today is Artist Day.

Would you call yourself an artist? Do you like to draw or paint? What about singing or dancing? Those are art forms too.

Did you know that the oldest records are not letters written in books; they are paintings and other kinds of art?

What is art? Let's talk about it. Art is hard to define. But you can make art out of anything. What one person calls art another person might consider to be trash.

You could also use today to learn about other important artists and painters, like Pablo Picasso, Mary Cassatt, or Andy Warhol.

-------------------------------

Explain It

Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:

  1. Without looking back, can you spell the word "paint"

  2. In your opinion, what is "art?"
