The Daily(ish) Decodable program uses a standard format to work through one sound per day. There are simple instructions for you, the parent or caregiver, and any words in big bold letters are meant for your child to read out loud.
Today we're going to work on words like “house” and “mouse.” If your child needs more work on these words, start here.
You can review all of the prior lessons here.
Rhyme It
Parents, read the following words out loud. Then ask your child which one does NOT rhyme with the others?
house
mouse
moose
-------------------------------
Say It
Have your child point to and say the word "mouse" three times:
mouse
mouse
mouse
-------------------------------
Blend It
Have your child read these words out loud:
house
spouse
blouse
doghouse
treehouse
henhouse
nuthouse
icehouse
jailhouse
firehouse
Read It
Have your child read the passage below out loud.
Houseplant Day
Today is Houseplant Day. Do you have any plants in your house?
Houseplants have a lot of benefits. They clean the air, lower your stress level, and can make you work a little bit better. They bring a little bit of the outdoors into the indoors.
A houseplant does not take much work. You can grow a houseplant with a little dirt, sun, and water. But watch out—different houseplants like more or less of these things!
A spider plant would be nice. They grow long vines.
Or, a small cactus could make for an excellent houseplant. Those need a lot of sun but not much water!
-------------------------------
Explain It
Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:
Without looking back, can you spell the word "house?"
What was today's story about?
