Rome
There is a saying that, “the city of Rome wasn't made in a day.” It means that important things take time and effort.
However, according to legend, Rome was founded on this day a long, long time ago.
Over time, Rome became strong and powerful. At one point, the Roman Empire included what is now France, Spain, Greece, Turkey, parts of northern Africa, England, and more. At that time, one out of every four people in the world lived under Rome's control.
Today, Rome is no longer as powerful. But it is still a great city and the capital of Italy.
-------------------------------
Explain It
Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:
What did you learn about Rome?
What does it mean when someone says, "the city of Rome wasn't built in a day?"
