Today we’re going to work on the “fl-” sound in words like “flag” or “fly."
Rhyme It
Parents, read the following words out loud. Then ask your child which one does NOT rhyme with the others?
plane cry fly ------------------------------- Say It Have your child point to the sound and say it 3 times: f l
f l
fl
------------------------------- Blend It Have your child read these words: flat
flag
flap
flip
flick
fling
flunk
flush
flutter
fly
Read It Have your child read the passage below:
The Flash
The Flash is so fast.
I ask him to grab me some milk. He is back faster than I can blink.
If I need clams and crabs for a stew, he grabs them faster than I can get a pot.
He wants to play flag football with me, but that will just not do. He is too fleet on his feet.
The Flash can brush and floss his teeth so quick I have to tip my cap.
But then, I can do one thing better than him. I can walk as slow as I want, but he cannot. ------------------------------- Explain It
Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:
How fast is The Flash?
Why can't The Flash play flag football with the author?
