The Daily(ish) Decodable program uses a standard format to work through one sound per day. There are simple instructions for you, the parent or caregiver, and any words in big bold letters are meant for your child to read out loud.
Today we're going to review the "soft c" in words like "cell" or the beginning of "circus."
You can review all of the prior lessons here.
Rhyme It
Parents, read the following words out loud. Then ask your child which one does NOT rhyme with the others?

The First Cellphone
On this day a long time ago, Martin Cooper made the first ever cellphone call.
But his cellphone wasn't exactly like the ones we have today. The first cellphone was a brick. It weighed 2.5 pounds. That's about the same weight as three cans of soup or one small bag of sugar.
The first cell phone was also about one foot long. That's twelve (12) inches, or the length of a ruler.
In other words, it was the first personal, handheld, portable phone. But you probably wouldn't want to carry that thing around in your pocket!
-------------------------------
Explain It
Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:
Can you describe the first cellphone?
How much did the first cellphone weigh?
