Daily(ish) Decodable: The "ee" sound

The Daily(ish) Decodable program uses a standard format to work through one sound per day. There are simple instructions for you, the parent or caregiver, and any words in big bold letters are meant for your child to read out loud.

Today we're going to review the “ee" sound in words like “bee” and “creek.”

You can review all of the prior lessons here

Have your child read the passage below out loud.

Evergreen Tree

An “evergreen” is a tree or plant that does not shed in the winter. Instead, it stays green all year. Even in the middle of winter, when so many trees have bare branches, evergreen needles are still green.

A maple tree is NOT an evergreen. Each maple leaf turns color in the fall and then falls to the ground.

Some people have fake trees that they assemble this time of year. But in our house, we celebrate with a real tree. We go to a store to pick it out. We manage to agree on one we like, and then we bring it home.

It costs more money, but we think it's worth it. There is nothing like the smell of a freshly cut tree.

-------------------------------

Explain It

Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:

  1. What is an evergreen tree?

  2. Without looking back, can you spell the word "evergreen?"
