The Daily(ish) Decodable program uses a standard format to work through one sound per day. There are simple instructions for you, the parent or caregiver, and any words in big bold letters are meant for your child to read out loud.
Today we're working on the “au” sound in words like “auto” or ”author."
You can review all of the prior lessons here.
Rhyme It
Parents, read the following words out loud. Then ask your child which one does NOT rhyme with the others?

Sally Ride
Sally Ride was an American astronaut.
On this day in the year 1978, NASA selected its first women astronauts. Sally was one of them.
As part of her training to become an astronaut, Sally started to fly planes.
But her first real job with NASA was to help make and operate a robotic arm. It was a big metal arm that could reach out and grab things in space.
And then, five years later, Sally flew into space as an astronaut. On launch day, she became the first American woman to fly in space.

Explain It
Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:
Who was Sally Ride? What was she famous for?
Here's a hard one: Can you spell out the word "astronaut?"
