Daily(ish) Decodable: The "-able" suffix

Last week we worked on words like “table” with a hard “a” sound. 

 

Today we're going to work on words that look similar but sound different, with the “-able” suffix at the end of words like “dependable” and “portable.” 

Rhyme It Parents, read the following words out loud. Then ask your child which one does NOT rhyme with the others?

Read It

Have your child read the passage below.


The First Hot-Air Balloon

On this day in 1783, two men in France launched the first hot-air balloon.

 

The balloon was 33 feet tall, and it went as high as 3,000 feet up in the air. Nobody was in it, but it flew for one and a half miles. 

 

Then, five months after that, in November, the two men completed the first flight with humans on board. They flew a remarkable five miles in twenty-five minutes.

 

I bet it was a memorable ride!
