The Daily(ish) Decodable program uses a standard format to work through one sound per day. There are simple instructions for you, the parent or caregiver, and any words in big bold letters are meant for your child to read out loud.
Today we're going to review words where the “s” makes a “z” sound, like “visit” and “prison.” Start here if your child needs a refresher on this sound.
You can review all of the prior lessons here.

Ramadan
This month is Ramadan, one of the most important events in the Islamic world. It is said like “rah-muh-don.”
People who celebrate Ramadan are known as Muslims.
Ramadan lasts for one month, and Muslims fast for the entire time. That means they do not eat for the whole day, from dawn, when the sun comes up, to sunset, when the sun sets in the sky.
Ramadan is also a time for faith and for families. At sunset, Muslim families eat a meal together, pray, and use the time to think and reflect.
At the end of Ramadan, Muslims gather together to celebrate, eat, and share small gifts.

Explain It
Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:
What is Ramadan?
What does the word "fasting" mean when it comes to food?
