Daily(ish) Decodable: Cherry Blossoms

The Daily(ish) Decodable program uses a standard format to work through one sound per day. There are simple instructions for you, the parent or caregiver, and any words in big bold letters are meant for your child to read out loud.

Today we're going to review the "ch" sound.

Cherry Blossoms

This week is the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C. It ushers in spring each year.

A long time ago, Japan gave a whole bunch of cherry trees to Washington, D.C. Today, there is a festival each spring to celebrate those trees. When the trees bloom, the pink and white blossoms are lovely to see!

There is a lot to do at the festival. You can:

  • Rent a boat and float between all the cherry blossom trees;

  • Go to the kite flying festival in front of the Washington Monument; and

  • Eat or drink things with cherries in them.

Or you can just walk around, watch, and take photographs.

-------------------------------

Explain It

Now have your child answer a couple questions about the story:

  1. What can people do at the Cherry Blossom Festival?

  2. What color are the cherry blossoms?
